Can you use thin set

Here's a thin coat rubbing up tip for ya mate, when rubbing up, fill a gorilla tub half with water, and use two floats to rub up ( not at same time ). hang one on the side of the tub and use the other, Clean it every 10/15 secs and then use the other one that's been hanging on the side drying out, and repeat Ive always found if your float is constantly clean it glides without any drag.

Why would it need boards anyway? I live in a 70s house, no boards anywhere other than in an extension, awful material.

How do you keep the plasterboard props steady on your own? Thats the biggest problem. If they were steady like yours, it would be a lot easier...

No need to use primer on brickwork like that.

Other plastering websites say that PVA should be used on brick walls to lower the suction rate. Now I'm confused.

Help… We’ve bought an old house and just found that under the wallpaper we’re removing is hardboard - wooden board with a slightly bobbly textured surface, it was used to cover the insulation. Problem is it wasn’t sealed in any way - they just glued wallpaper on top. Couple of questions I’d really appreciate help with - we don’t have much cash so can’t hire pros! 1) what’s the best way to get the old wallpaper off? Some came off ok, other bits are very stuck. Can we wet it or will that damage the board? 2) what primer should we use before plastering? Or just PVA? Many thanks if anyone can help

Oh my god thank you. I wondered if you could roller plaster as I’ve tried it in the past and just can’t (my dad, bless him, was great at it and tried to teach me). I have a question, when i fill the holes and try to polish it , the compound lift off as they are still wet whereas the thin part is already dry. Why?

The question is, can you achieve that textured finish with the sponge on that pre mixed pre made render? Since you were bringing the sand to the surface with the sponge.

If you have an extension with a rendered face on one end but with exposed brick on the other sides, would you use a stop bead at each end as well as a stop bead at the bottom? Looking to re-do the render as it's cracked and scruffy looking. Currently there are no beads anywhere, either at the ends or the bottom but I wonder if adding beads might add some additional strength? Really loving the render series of videos.

Is it possible to learn how to plaster through city and guilds course and then go out there and start plastering in your own? With no one to guide you except trial and error is it possible to learn though learning online and again through trial and error? Any advice please?

One of the best video clips I have ever watched

here in the US we use redwood strips 3/8 x 2" skim the whole wall and set the strips into the mud on the highpoints plumb, let it set up, screed off using the strips, cut out the strips and fill, you can also use these to square up walls to each other, we do this to float showers for tile but same process applies to anything. ......once basecoat is square, flat and plumb you can finish it with anything.....coat of plaster, Tile, stone, marbel, etc works really well and is basic and quick, tile setters been doing this forever in bathrooms.....walls are never square or plumb.....even if it was perfect when built they shift and move over time

I've never plastered. First sealing I did was a artex cleaning. I did not take anything off. Just pva and a thick coat of multi finish. I found it easy and a good finish. One coat pva. It was a tiny sealing albeit

What’s the best approach for spikey droplet artex? Are you able to just chip them off and then follow this process or should this also be avoided.

My house was built in 1967 so would I be right in thinking my popcorn ceiling is most likely going to be a asbestos mixture, i was told only properties from pre 1960 used a asbestos mixture, I suppose I will have someone test a small piece before we skim over this but just wondering if anyone could confirm this? I don't understand what the sponge is doing...you got the plaster nice and smooth but then the sponge made it bumpy again?
